Joel Slack-Smith

Joel Slack-Smith grew up in Sydney and from a young age was writing funny stuff. A huge fan of “Weird Al” Yankovic, Joel spent an unhealthy amount of his youth writing song parodies.

Roarsome is Joel’s first book, but he has been writing for kids for years. He has written on kids’ animations, sitcoms and sketch shows, as well as a bunch of programmes aimed at adults.

Joel has won three AWGIE Awards for comedy writing and still spends an unhealthy amount of time writing song parodies.

ROARSOME

Half lion. Half werewolf. All pillow. Totally ROARSOME!

All Walter wanted for his birthday was a limited edition, nitro-powered drone.

Instead, he gets a tattered old lion-shaped pillow (that smells suspiciously like werewolf wee). ROAR-kward! Now the full moon is out and Roars the lion-pillow has come to life for one night only, looking for adventure.*

Roars doesn’t just want some fun ... he wants ALL the fun!

* Adventure may contain traces of mini-golf, lion boogers and fart-powered hot air balloons.

FEBRUARY FREEZE! (ROARSOME: PHASE 2)

Half lion. Half werewolf. All pillow. Totally ROARSOME!

It has been a month since Walter discovered his pillow is a living, breathing lion were-pillow called Roars and he can’t wait for their next full-moon adventure! But now Walter’s cousin, Jeff, has come to stay and he’s brought his monster net to catch a were-pillow and pull its stuffing out—ROARFUL! When the full moon rises, Walter has to keep Roars hidden, evade a flesh-eating Yeti and still have ALL THE FUN!*

*Fun may contain traces of fake snow, Dad jokes and cheesy wee.
