Scholastic has been bringing the best of children’s publishing to Australian children for almost 50 years and is recognised as a market leader in children’s publishing. The fledgling HJ Ashton Company, founded in New Zealand in 1962, was established in Australia in 1968, and in 1970 joined the Scholastic Inc. International group, which has its head office in New York, USA.

Children’s Books

Scholastic is Australia's largest publisher and distributor of children’s books: we represent close to 30% of Australia's best-selling children's books. Scholastic Australia books are sold around the world, and foreign rights sales represent a strong and growing area of the company's business. The company licenses rights to over 30 countries throughout the world including the USA, UK, Italy, France, Germany, Japan and Korea.

Scholastic Publishing releases approximately 500 books a year in Australia under 5 imprints, including bestsellers and award-winners, which appeal to established and fledgling readers. Our imprints include Scholastic Press, Omnibus Books, Scholastic Australia, Koala Books and Scholastic Australia licensed books.

Scholastic Book Club is available in more than 94% of primary schools in Australia. Children and teachers are exposed to the best in Australian and international children's literature. Book Club gives parents and children a convenient way to purchase affordable, age-appropriate books to bridge the class-to-home reading connection.

Scholastic Book Fairs conducts about 7,000 school-based fairs annually in Australia, enabling a hands-on experience where children have access to a wide choice of books and igniting a life-long passion for reading.

Scholastic Education serves as the centre of pedagogical knowledge within the company. Through its close affiliation with departments of education and classroom teachers for over 40 years, Scholastic Education has contributed to the positioning of Scholastic Australia as one of the most respected names in the Australian education sector.
