Connectors is designed for independent, group reading.

Students using Connectors practise four key comprehension strategies central to Reciprocal Reading. The four strategies are:

  • Introduce challenging vocabulary
  • Be short and highly engaging
  • Stimulate interest and raise questions for discussion
  • Provide complementary visual support.

To ensure students are able to follow the process used in Connectors, it is recommended that the teacher models the role of group leader before students work independently with Connectors.

The teacher gradually withdraws as a group participant when the students are able to work as an independent peer group.
