Peter McFarlane writes . . .
Hi everyone. I hope you like Michaela. I enjoyed writing her story because I was able to introduce her to characters from other books you have been asking about-like Nut and Sponge the bodyboarders in Bruce the Goose, and Tina and Dwina the tangled talkers in Soula the Ruler. I was also able to write about things I love - the beach, the sea and whales.
I grew up in a converted barn in Brighton in SA and spent most of my time playing in the dunes at the end of my street and swimming out to sea. When I got a bit older I joined the surf lifesavers and went on patrol. I wrote about this in my first novel, The Tin House.
I still love to swim ... I usually head off early in the morning while my wife and children are sleeping. I step lightly on our old battered Adelaide Crows welcome mat, and then I drive to the local pool for an hour.
Michaela the Whaler is the final book in a series of seven books, starting with Rebecca the Wrecker.
