Christobel Mattingley

Author

The award-winning author of more than thirty-five books for children, Christobel Mattingley’s readership spans more than one generation.

She won the inaugural Children’s Book Council of Australia Junior Book of the Year Award in 1982 for Rummage. Other award-winning books include Windmill at Magpie Creek; The Miracle Tree; The Angel with a Mouth-Organ; and No Gun for Asmir.

For Scholastic Australia and Omnibus Books, Christobel has written The Big Swim; Tiger’s Milk; Tucker’s Mob; and Daniel’s Secret—published in July 1997. The Race was an Honour Book in the 1996 Children’s Book Council of Australia Picture Book of the Year Awards. The Magic Saddle, published by Margaret Hamilton Books, is widely regarded as a children’s classic.

As well as writing for children, Christobel has written film scripts, short stories, articles and poetry.

In 1990 she received the ultimate accolade—an Advance Australia Medal for her contribution to literature in Australia.
